Empowerment by Inside Out Thinking

Embracing change can be tricky business for any large organisation.  Running a busy national train & tram fleet operation is no exception

" We have had really great responses and feedback from these workshops.. the penny seems to have dropped about empowerment from our managers (Chris - General Manager). "

We discovered the key to unlocking strategic change for this organisation was to engage & empower first line management to influence a shift in mind set as well as psychological contracts at grass-roots level.

To do this we created a unique and highly innovative process that we have piloted with 3 national operational fleets.  The process involved an 'inside out thinking' approach.  This meant taking the viewpoint of the shop floor and challenging the unspoken and unwritten rules that seemed to be a large interference by resisting change.  So the inside out thinking approach involved...

identifying & articulating the actual unwritten rules

Defining their impact on individuals

Creating a mechanism to influence change by breaking through the concerns via empowerment at the first line of management.

Gaining and agreeing a commitment to change.
